The PAINT Panel is a paintable version of our FulFill™ Acoustical Panel. The panel is made with the same 6-7pcf fiberglass core and finished with a paintable scrim that still allows for excellent acoustical absorption. The panels are painted in our shop before shipping using a special Sherwin-Williams latex paint. They are also available unpainted, so you can finish as desired onsite, following some important guidelines.
Due to the painted finish, these panels should be installed where they are sure to be safe from contact.

Field Painting
Keep in mind that the acoustical performance of the finished painted panels is heavily contingent upon the painting method. Some things to keep in mind and share with the painter:

You can use any latex paint. However, we recommend using a sheen no greater than eggshell, as the sheen can greatly impact performance.

The coat of paint should be as thin as possible to achieve results similar to the testing data above.

The recommended painting method is spray painting. Things to consider for the spray painting method:

We have had clients use a 3.5hp compressor and consumer sprayer with good results.
- Typically, the paint is too thick to spray with a consumer sprayer, so you should follow manufacturer guidelines for thinning the paint before use.
- Apply the paint with the sprayer perpendicular to the panel's surface, moving back and forth to get a consistent coat.
- One coat is ideal and should be adequate, but this will depend on the color chosen.
- It is better to do two very thin coats of paint rather than one heavy coat.
- Make sure that the panel's surface is clean and free from particles before painting.
- You should paint the edges first since overspray will occur. The edges of the panels could be painted with a roller with minimal impact on the acoustical performance. These edges are already chemically hardened and don’t offer significant absorption qualities.
- Testing out the spray pattern on cardboard first is helpful.
- When we do this at the shop, we use a Graco LTX 217 airless blue tip and set the spray pattern to approximately 9” wide. We try to get the coverage we need on the first pass because a second pass can often lead to splotchy results (and diminished acoustical performance). If you do have to apply a second coat to some of the panels, the sprayer should travel the opposite direction on the second coat – i.e., if the first coat was left to right, the second coat should be up and down.
- Roller/Brush painting is NOT recommended. If roller/brush painting is chosen for any reason, apply the thinnest coating of paint possible, but understand that the performance will not be the same as the published values. A standard roller with ½” nap is suggested. You would want to evenly coat the roller while not overloading. If you choose to roll on the paint, finish the panel in one session – do not take a break and come back when half of the panel is dry.
